Be Filled with Hope!
“Take a good look at my servant. I’m backing him to the hilt. He’s the one I chose, and I couldn’t be more pleased with him. I’ve bathed him with my Spirit, my life. He’ll set everything right among the nations. He won’t call attention to what he does with loud speeches or gaudy parades. He won’t brush aside the bruised and the hurt and he won’t disregard the small and insignificant, but he’ll steadily and firmly set things right. He won’t tire out and quit. He won’t be stopped until he’s finished his work—to set things right on earth. Far-flung ocean islands wait expectantly for his teaching.” (Isaiah 42.1-4 MSG)
Many people pay very little attention to the news of the day. They might read headlines, but beyond that, very little invested in the news. Why? The news is stressful. Not the news itself but the reporting of the news is stressful. There was a time when the newspaper, the local television stations, the national news broadcasts just reported the news. They informed us of what was happening in this country and the world. Today there is very little simple reporting. Every news agency and so-called news reporter spins the news to fit a particular narrative. It does not matter what side of the political aisle suits your liking both sides spin everything.
I am so much less stressed since I decided to refrain from watching the news as it is reported and spun. I may read headlines for the day yet seldom read news stories unless it is something very interesting. I have discovered that the Bible does a far better job of informing us as to the developments of the day. Above I have pasted Isaiah 42.1-4. It tells me everything that I need to know. God’s faithful servant will set everything right.
God has chosen a person to be His faithful servant here on earth. His name is Jesus of Nazareth. God has backed Him completely and He was very pleased with how He conducted His business. God the Father saturated God the Son with God the Holy Spirit. Here is where Isaiah the Prophet tells us exactly what Jesus was all about.
“He will set everything right among the nations. Far-flung ocean islands wait expectantly for his teaching.”
Is this not what we all desire? We want real justice for all people regardless of race, nationality, political persuasion, gender, sexuality, etc. Justice is a very important activity. Jesus gives special attention to the weak, the sick, the insignificant people of the world. He does not slant justice for those that can do something for Him. There is nothing anyone can do for Him. Jesus is not bound by time. He works at a steady pace without stopping ever. He never tires, He never quits, He never caves to public pressure. He cannot be stopped. He is ever about doing His work here on earth until it is complete. He will not fail for every person on the face of the earth.
There is no simple human character that is capable of such goodness. People want recognition for their good work and/or bad work depending upon your perspective. Not only do they want recognition, but they also want the rewards of adoration, status, power, and money. The Bible tells us about many people that fall into this category. Why does the Bible tell us about people for which God is not pleased? It is very simple. God tells us about every kind of person that we can see for ourselves those that did a good job and those that did a poor job. We see today’s people in those ancient people.
We do not need news reporting to know that things are not right in this world today. What can one do? Stay calm. Serve where it is needed. Pray God will establish His final kingdom here on earth with Jesus at the Head. He is the only perfect servant leader. Let us read the Bible more than we read or watch the news. We read God’s word and are filled with hope. We read His word and grow to know it, there is nothing that happens here on this planet that surprises us.
