God Has Blessed the USA
I doubt that many would argue against this, God has blessed the United States of America. Over several thousands of years, He has blessed Israel. Israel, like America, has a sketchy past in obedience to God. The following words come from the biblical prophet, Amos. He wrote this in chapter 9 of his prophecy.
I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said:
“Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake. Bring them down on the heads of all the people; those who are left I will kill with the sword. Not one will get away, none will escape…”(NIV)
God goes on to declare that He will destroy all the people but a small remnant. The Biblical record tells us that He did just that. Why would God, who chose the nation Israel to be His people, do such a thing. The short answer is, disobedience, sin! They worshipped other gods, they treated the poor very badly. They cheated people, they murdered. They violated everything God ever declared good for them.
Jesus (God), simplifies His commandments in the biblical book of Matthew. Chapter 22, verses 37-40;
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (NIV)
God is very serious about disobedience, sin. How are we doing as individuals and as a nation? I would suggest that we are not doing very well. Suppose God declared through the preachers in this land the same message He declared through the prophet, Amos? How many preachers would declare that message? How many would heed it and repent? I suspect that few would declare it and few would heed it.
Let’s consider the level of hatred in our land. Consider the 60 million-plus abortions in the past 46 years. I believe in choice. The choice before you engage in a procreative activity. Let us not stop there. We lie, steal, we commit acts of violence toward one another. We are barely even civil toward one another. What must God think? Read the Amos quote above and draw your own conclusions. As for me, I repent, for personal sin and for corporate and National sin. Repent, turn from your disobedience and be Holy as God is Holy. Maybe we will be part of the small remnant that survives.
